Acres of Scallops

We were trying  a local sushi place for the first time and I drove to the restaurant to place my take-out order. I noticed scallops on the menu and ordered them. My order-taker said that they were out  and hadn’t had them at all lately. Now this place is just down the block, walking distance from a great seafood store that I know supplies restaurants. Scallops are local to the area and pristine.

I thought of the famous talk by Earl Nightingale, Acres of Diamonds. it is a classic of self-help in which a farmer hears of people getting rich mining for diamonds. He sells his farm and goes searching but dies a broken man. The person he sold the farm to? Well, you can guess.

We have everything we need right under out feet, even scallops, if we’d only look.
